EVALUATIONS

In order to identify the root cause of your child's communication or feeding challenges, we will complete a thorough evaluation. This process often includes:

The evaluation will also help us determine whether a referral to another medical professional is necessary. We want your family to get the best possible outcomes in therapy!

  • A review of health and developmental history

  • Parent interviews and questionnaires

  • Examination of oral structures and facial muscle movements

  • Evaluation of breathing habits, swallowing patterns, and oral posture

  • Informal or formal testing

Speech & Language Therapy

Speech and language skills are fundamental to connection. We take the time to learn how your child communicates, build a positive therapeutic relationship, and build on their current skills. Through a combination of play-based activities and parent coaching, speech therapy can help your child:

  • Effectively communicate with other children and adults

  • Use all age-appropriate speech sounds

  • Increase vocabulary and sentence length

  • Understand and follow directions

  • Feel confident in social interactions and at school

We always work with families to determine which words and skills are most important to them. We love helping children say their own names, label and request their favorite foods, or tell stories about their birthday parties!

Feeding & Swallowing Therapy

It is possible to have enjoyable and stress-free mealtimes! Through a responsive approach to skilled feeding therapy, we can help children with a variety of medical or sensory challenges to:

  • Eat a greater variety of foods safely

  • Reduce selective eating (textures, temperatures, colors, smells, etc.)

  • Chew foods effectively before swallowing

  • Decrease gagging, vomiting, & coughing during meals

  • Enjoy feeding and mealtimes

  • Gain weight through breast/bottle feeding and solids

  • Transition from liquids to solid foods

  • Shorten feeds or mealtimes

We also offer lactation support and education to help new mothers with breast and bottle feeding. Particularly, we can help ensure that your baby is latching appropriately and getting the nutrition they need to grow! Breastfeeding should not be painful, and you don't have to do this alone.

Myofunctional Therapy

Getting to the root of myofunctional issues can improve your child's speech, swallowing, feeding, and sleeping abilities. By evaluating and treating the muscles of the mouth and face, myofunctional therapy can reduce:

  • Persistent speech sound errors

  • Tongue thrust

  • Sleep apnea

  • Sleeping with mouth open, snoring, & restlessness

  • Teeth grinding

  • Drooling

  • Thumb/finger/object sucking habits

  • Dental issues

  • Tongue and lip tie problems

We take an interdisciplinary approach to myofunctional therapy. Through collaboration with other medical professionals - like physicians and orthodontists - we can promote quicker progress and lasting changes.
